Carteco sponsors the second Pecha Kucha Night in Athens
10 speakers x 20 images x 20 seconds
Friday 5 December 2008 – 8:20pm

THISSION LOFTS, Pireos 123 Gazi (Keramikos metro station)

This year, for the first time in Athens, Pecha Kucha Night will be staged for one evening dedicated to architecture, design, science and any kind of creativity.

The initial idea was born in Tokyo in 2003, by the British Architects Klein-Dytham and today it has spread to 140 cities worldwide. Carteco is proud to support this first event as part of its continuing cultural policy which supports the showcase and development of architecture and design.

The first Pecha Kucha Night in Athens will take place on Friday, 5th December 2008 at the exhibition space of Thission Lofts at Pireos Street.
What is Pecha Kucha? It is a new and different way of presenting thoughts and work of creative people from all fields of architecture, journalism, science, gastronomy, applied arts, design etc. in a evening which aims to expand horizons set on a chit-chat style platform between the speaker and the audience. 10 Speakers x 20 images x 20 seconds, or in other words each speaker has 6 minutes and 40 seconds to present his/her subject using 20 images. A limitation which means that talks are simple, short, concise and humorous. Pecha Kucha worldwide addresses a largely young crowd (20-40 year olds) from the world of art and design.

CEO and Managing Director of Carteco, Vassilios P. Bartzokas said ‘ With all the large sponsorships and support for design events this year, we are welcoming Pecha Kucha Night to Athens. It is a truly unique and happy showcase. Carteco is a design orientated company with a real interest in architecture and creativity and will always be present at events which expand our horizons and place Greece on the international map of design.’

It was with great success that The Archive opened in Thessaloniki, a meeting point for the architects and designers of Thessaloniki. The Archive is the most recent initiative by Carteco. It is a materials library for architects and interior designers which also functions as an architectural exhibition space. The first exhibition series hosted by The Archive is entitled ‘The Archive Episodes’. The first of these, Episode 01, showcases the Greek participation in the 11th Biennale for Architecture in Venice, ATHENS by SOUND, organised by architects Christina Achtypi, Stylianos Giamarelos and Anastasia Karandeinou.

ATHENS by SOUND is an installation which is a sound map of Athens and in exchange it is now Venice sending its voice back to Greece with a parallel first sound exhibition entitled The Archive Episodes 01, VENICE by SOUND. This installation presents 5 sounds, recorded in Venice in September 2008. This architectural event also marked the official launch of The Archive and the installation will run in parallel until the end of the Biennale on the 23rd November.

A little bit more about The Archive…

In a small space, of no more than 25 m2, The Archive concentrates the most necessary tools for architects to enable them to develop their projects. Here you will find a large library of material catalogues and samples that Carteco offers. There are also informed publications from Greece and abroad, three i-Macs with free internet access and a projector for the user to use for presentations.

The Archive operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and access is by a personalised entrance card. Membership cards are free to all interested architects and designers who register. The Archive is another initiative by Carteco that aims to be even closer to architects, interior designers and creatives by offering a space for the freedom for creativity, inspiration, study and work.
